Thanksgiving for a Second Life
The Eduardo M. Cojuangco, Jr. and Ramon S. Ang Center for Organ Transplantation of St. Luke’s-Global City recently held a get-together for its kidney transplant patients and their donors last June 17, 2017 in an event entitled “Sharing our Transplant Journey.” Grateful patients gave their testimonials of healing and gave thanks to the doctors and staff of the Center for caring for them and bringing them back to good health.
Dr. Angel Joaquin Amante, Head of the Center for Organ Transplantation, said that since the Center opened in 2010, it has performed close to 200 kidney transplants with good clinical outcomes. Its success rates currently stand at 100% survival for 1-year post-transplant, and 98% survival for 3-years post-transplant. With St. Luke’s-Global City also being the first private hospital in the country to be accredited by PhilHealth for the Z Package, transplants at St. Luke’s have now become more affordable and accessible to more Filipinos.
Aside for thanksgiving for their second chance life, the patients and doctors also thanked the organ donors, who selflessly gave a part of themselves to give life to another. To this, Dr. Amante responded that the Center will be coming up with a deceased organ donation program and organ procurement organization which will promote organ donation and encourage people to consider organ donation so they may leave a legacy and become heroes for others. The kidney transplant patients of St. Luke’s also agreed to the idea of putting up a support group so that they may counsel other patients who are considering transplantation.
